My summer plans are still up in the air.
Facts:I know that I have my job at both schools in the fall. I have spoken with both principals at both schools. Both of them want me to return in the fall. School ends on May 27th and starts back on August 15th. My dilemma is what to do for summer employment.
Here are few things I am considering.
I had an interview yesterday(04/08/05) for an instructional design job. It went pretty good, the interviewer wants me to send her additional work samples and contact information for my references. This position is full time w/benefits. It is for a large company with one of many corporate offices in here in Denver. The interview went pretty good. I made a conscious effort to be less talkative than I normally would be in an interview. From what she described, I feel like I could do the work without a problem. It would involve converting a bunch of preexisting content from various formats to Macromedia Flash. They have conversion software that does it, making the task much easier. That would be the initial part of the job, which would then lead to more development of content from scratch. If I got this job, I think the conversion aspect would be a great way to get adjusted to the company, the S.O.P, and learn the software applications that they use. Ifthey were to offer the job, I would have to take it.
I had an informal phone interview on Tuesday. The man interviewing me was very difficult to understand. He had a very heavy Indian accent and was also very soft spoken. The job is an instructional design job with an immediate need for someone with strong editing/writing skills. I think that I would be a good fit if that is the primary need. He asked me to send writing samples, so I pulled up some old articles that were published in Impressions Magazine during an undergrad internship. Although the articles are “fluff,” they are still published in a magazine with a circulation of 100k. I am expecting to hear back from by the end of next week(4/15/05) about a face to face interview with the staff. If they were offer the job, I would have to take it.
I did my application materials for an instructional design job w/ the Dept. of Army. The location in is in Ft. Lee VA…about 30mins south of Richmond, VA. I have a good friend that works there and he seems to enjoy the work. I think the location would be okay. Freida recently went to Richmond and was really impressed with the area and would consider living there. I would be open to relocating to that area if I got the job. It pays very well, and the pay rate goes up significantly each year. It is a govt. job, so it has all to the benefits and perks that come with that. I applied for a similar position in Augusta, GA also. If they offered the job, there will be a CELEBRATION!!
If none of these work out, the teaching overseas thing is my next real option. It pays more than I currently make, they pay for(or supplement) your housing, you get flown there(or reimbursed for airfare)and I would be able to live overseas, save some money, and travel from that location.
